Numerical models of black hole accretion flows

چکیده
Black hole accretion flows are the hot, magnetized, turbulent plasma that surround black holes in astrophysical settings and in some cases make them the most luminous objects in the universe. I review recent developments in the numerical modeling of these plasmas. For weakly radiating flows it is now possible to follow the dynamics of the plasma by integrating the equations of general relativistic magnetohydrodynamics using numerical methods borrowed from nonrelativistic hydrodynamics. Ray tracing, along the curved trajectories followed by light close to the black hole event horizon, can then be used to create simulated observations of these weakly radiating flows. These models are relevant to the faint source at the galactic center, which may soon be directly imaged by millimeter interferometry. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A Simplified Solution for Advection Dominated Accretion Flows with Outflow
The existence of outflow in the advection dominated accretion flows has been confirmed by both numerical simulations and observations. The outow models for ADAF have been investigated by several groups with a simple self similar solution. But this solution is inaccurate at the inner regions and can not explain the emitted spectrum of the flow; so, it is necessary to obtain a global solution for...
متن کاملGeneral Relativistic Magnetohydrodynamic Simulations of Black Hole Accretion Disks
Observations are providing increasingly detailed quantitative information about the accretion flows that power such high energy systems as X-ray binaries and active galactic nuclei. Analytic models of such systems must rely on assumptions such as regular flow geometry and a simple, parameterized stress. Global numerical simulations offer a way to investigate the basic physical dynamics of accre...
متن کاملA ug 1 99 8 A “ horizon adapted ” approach to the study of relativistic accretion flows onto rotating black holes
We present a new geometrical approach to the study of accretion flows onto rotating black holes. Instead of Boyer-Lindquist coordinates, the standard choice in all existing numerical simulations in the literature, we employ the simplest example of a horizon adapted coordinate system, the Kerr-Schild coordinates. This choice eliminates unphysical divergent behavior at the event horizon. Computat...
متن کاملFoundations of Black Hole Accretion Disk Theory
This review covers the main aspects of black hole accretion disk theory. We begin with the view that one of the main goals of the theory is to better understand the nature of black holes themselves. In this light we discuss how accretion disks might reveal some of the unique signatures of strong gravity: the event horizon, the innermost stable circular orbit, and the ergosphere. We then review,...
متن کاملHigh-redshift supermassive black holes: accretion through cold flows
We use zoom-in techniques to re-simulate three high-redshift (z ≥ 5.5) haloes which host 109 M black holes from the ∼Gpc volume, MassiveBlack cosmological hydrodynamic simulation. We examine a number of factors potentially affecting supermassive black hole growth at high redshift in cosmological simulations. We find insignificant differences in the black hole accretion history by (i) varying th...
